Restoring Hope, Dignity, and Opportunity in Rwanda

At Good News for Peace and Development – Rwanda (GNPDR), we believe that lasting transformation occurs when people experience healing in every dimension of life—spiritually, psychologically, emotionally, socially, and economically.

Through faith-informed and community-centered programs, GNPDR works with individuals and families who are often overlooked: prisoners, genocide survivors, widows, street-connected children, and communities struggling with trauma and poverty.

Inspired by Rwanda’s journey of healing after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, our programs help individuals rebuild their lives while strengthening peace and social cohesion in communities across the country.

Our Reach

Through partnerships with local communities, faith institutions, and correctional facilities, GNPDR has reached thousands of vulnerable individuals and families across Rwanda.

Our programs support:

✔ Incarcerated individuals seeking rehabilitation and personal transformation
✔ Survivors of trauma and violence
✔ Genocide widows and vulnerable households
✔ Children living on the streets or at risk of school dropout
✔ Communities working toward reconciliation and peaceful coexistence

By addressing both immediate needs and long-term development challenges, GNPDR helps communities move from vulnerability toward resilience and hope.

Key Results

Our integrated programs have produced meaningful and measurable impact in several critical areas.

Restoring Hope in Correctional Facilities

Through prison rehabilitation and crime prevention programs, incarcerated individuals receive counseling, literacy training, Bible engagement, and life-skills development.

These initiatives have helped many inmates rediscover purpose, develop positive values, and prepare for responsible reintegration into society.

Promoting Healing and Reconciliation

Through victim–offender mediation and restorative justice initiatives, GNPDR facilitates dialogue between individuals affected by crime and violence. These safe and structured conversations encourage accountability, forgiveness, and healing.

This work contributes to rebuilding trust and strengthening peaceful relationships within communities.

Strengthening Mental Health and Emotional Resilience

GNPDR promotes mental health awareness and provides psychosocial support services for vulnerable individuals experiencing trauma, stress, and emotional distress.

Through counseling, community education, and support groups, participants gain tools to cope with difficult experiences and rebuild emotional wellbeing.

Improving health awareness among inmates

Through sexual and reproductive health and rights education programs, incarcerated individuals receive accurate information about health, responsible behavior, and personal wellbeing.

These initiatives promote healthier lifestyles, increased awareness, and improved dignity within correctional facilities.

Empowering Widows and Vulnerable Families

The Hope Project for Genocide Widows supports vulnerable women through income-generating initiatives such as poultry farming, solar-powered irrigation, and organic agriculture.

These programs help families improve food security, increase household income, and regain economic independence while restoring hope and dignity.

Giving Street Children a Second Chance

GNPDR’s inclusive education initiatives support the rehabilitation and reintegration of street-connected children by helping them return to school and reconnect with their families and communities.

Through mentorship, psychosocial support, and educational assistance, these children are given a renewed opportunity to build stable and productive futures.

Beneficiary Stories

Behind every program are individuals whose lives have been transformed.

A Former Prisoner Finds New Purpose

After participating in GNPDR’s prison rehabilitation program, a life-sentenced inmate described how counseling and Bible engagement helped him confront his past and find peace. Today he mentors fellow inmates, encouraging them to pursue personal transformation and reconciliation with their families.

A Widow Rebuilds Her Livelihood

Through the Hope Project, a genocide widow received chickens and agricultural training that enabled her to start a small poultry business. The income now helps her provide food for her children and pay school expenses, restoring stability and dignity to her family.

A Street Child Returns to School

A boy who once lived on the streets was supported by GNPDR to return to school and receive mentorship. With consistent encouragement and educational support, he is now progressing in his studies and working toward a brighter future.

Our Holistic Approach

What makes GNPDR unique is our commitment to holistic transformation.

We address the spiritual, emotional, psychological, and socio-economic needs of individuals simultaneously. By integrating peacebuilding, healthcare awareness, rehabilitation, and education, we create pathways for sustainable change.

Partner With Us

The challenges faced by vulnerable communities require collaborative solutions.

GNPDR welcomes partnerships with international donors, foundations, faith-based organizations, and humanitarian institutions committed to justice, peace, and human dignity.

Together, we can expand our impact and bring hope to even more individuals and communities across Rwanda.
